Narrative Assessment Date: 15.6.18
Learners: Major Learning Coach: Megan Croll - LH6
|
Learning Area: Maths Problem Solving
|
Learning Observed
|
This is a narrative assessment of collaborative learning during a maths problem
solving session. In Term 1, we introduced the learners of LH6 to Kagan Structures and grouped the learners into four colour groups according to their strengths and capabilities. We also unpacked how to solve maths word problems by using the ‘CUBE’ strategy (Using Language, Symbols and Text).
At the beginning of each session, Major is invited to find the other learners from
his group and get organised with the necessary materials (Managing Self). We then introduce the maths problem with the expectation that Major will connect with the others in his group while solving the problem. Today, the learners were given the following problem:
With help from a learning coach, Major underlined the important information,
but was unsure what to do next. He wasn’t keen to join in with his team’s conversation; preferring to sit by himself and work with the learning coach. |
Evidence of learning
|
Major was able to talk about the possible ages of the children, then identify their
correct ages. |
Next Steps:
* Share his own ideas with the other members of his group
* Listen carefully when other learners are sharing their learning
* Be prepared to make changes to his thinking
